Campaign video is where a brand’s season comes to life, and most of it is now watched on a phone, in a few seconds, often without sound. At Slate Studios our producers, CGI artists and editors make short films for fashion, beauty and fragrance brands, from the first frame to the final cut. Here are three recent films and how each was made.

Narciso Rodriguez: A Fragrance in Motion

For Narciso Rodriguez, Slate Studios produced a set of short fragrance films for social and e-commerce. Each film holds on a single bottle and lets light, texture and slow, deliberate camera moves carry the mood of the scent. The edits are built to loop cleanly, so the film reads as one continuous moment on a phone screen.

NARS: Built in CGI

For NARS, Slate built the product in CGI, so every surface, from the case to the bullet, could be lit and moved with a precision a physical set rarely allows. Working in CGI also meant one model could serve every format, from a square social post to a tall story, without reshooting.

Kylie Cosmetics: Shot and Cut for Social

For Kylie Cosmetics, Slate Studios produced and edited short-form video made for the way the brand’s audience watches: fast, vertical and sound-optional. Pacing, crops and on-screen moments were planned in the edit from the start, so each cut works in a feed as well as in a campaign.

How We Work

Every Slate film starts with the format it will live in. We plan the edit before the shoot, build CGI where it gives more control than a set, and finish each piece in our own post-production studio in New York, so the brand sees one team from brief to delivery.
